Bit of a change from the norm for me.
The bike only gets used on hols when we do a family bike ride to get supplies or explore the flat trails in France.
BUT .....
Fitness is at a low at the moment, and with the outlaws down it seems a perfect opportunity to appear sociable and yet get couple hours peace & quiet ..... so .... Bedgbury it was then.
Family clan can do the gentle walk round the play areas while I go and explore the single track.
Love it when a plan comes together!
Must admit that my lack of bike riding came into evidence pretty early on, in fact first climb up the nice wide path before even got to the single track had me wanting for breath. No cardio fitness at all it seems !!
Anyway, the first bit of single track looked downhill, so went for it anyway ..... then when saw a group stopped at top of a 'technical section' discussing perfect route / techniques etc I thought I might be able to take a breather then follow them down ...... alas, much like a game of golf, the slower players called me through and then I am sure were all very critical of my own technique. I felt a bit like a MTB version of Harty's 'Nobby' in his video classics. Whatever, I nailed the section despite the front end washing away a little of a slippy bit and my V-brakes doing sweet FA when I needed them.
And so it went on with me and my £34 full suss mtb fumbling my way around the however many km's of single track there is at Bedgbury.
I have to say that come the end of the route, I was pretty cream crackered, but I did really enjoy the last section, mainly downhill which suited me, knowing some cycling club were chasing me and not even close to catching me .... I even got brave a got both wheels airbourne at the same time.
Relatively speaking I crawled around, but I was a fun workout and a nice way spending couple of hours just out of earshot of the outlaws without appearing unsociable.
Met them back at the van for some picnic lunch before heading off to scope some park they'd 'discovered' on a previous visit. The things I have to do sometimes !!
I would rather have been windsurfing for sure, but as the posse have been preaching to me for months now, it's reasonable exercise given nothing better to do.
The kids and missus had a good enough time so I'm sure it can count as a family day out even though I disappeared for couple of hours to play at 'mountain biking'.
I was tempted to go have a looksee at the freeride area, but as I was already getting funny looks doing the single track in my safety beanie I thought better of making a proper arse of myself there. I need to search harder to find my old skate lid or will have to scour ebay for a decent bargain full face lid like RichC's ;-)
